  1. This is the passenger side now. I'm going to finish the welding underneath after I roll it on its side. I might be nuts but I'm doing this as correctly as I can and the battery bulge is wrong for an early car so it had to go.
  2. Hi Al, A friend picked it up from a scrapyard in California a few years ago, its been cut off again now for the backdate. I've still got the passenger side if anyone wants one. This is what the front drivers side inner wing looked like a few months ago with a trial fit of the new bonnet
  3. Ok, so I'm still at it. 3 1/2 ish years later I've been quite busy. There has been a big change in direction. The sunroof has gone. The only parts left on the car at the moment are the doors and the fuel lines and wiring loom running through the tunnel. The lower rear quarters are off so I could remove the kidney bowls, and the rear of the outer sills are off so I can replace the jack tubes. The shell is mounted in an octagonal cage so it can be turned upside down. I decided around 6 months ago that what I really wanted was a 911ST so thats what I've been building. As the car is an ex-sportomatic with the wrong engine, it was never going to be correct so I thought why not. I bought EB Motorsport ST front wings, both bumpers & a bonnet, a new genuine front slam panel. 8 & 9 x 15 Minilites with Michelin TB15s and loads of new suspension bits. Everything else not welded to the car is being either powder coated or zinc plated or both. In the next few weeks the shell will be going for shot blasting and epoxy priming then I can finish the welding off and start on the bodywork. Pics to follow soon Tim
  4. Thanks for all the kind words guys On with the show. With the screen corner repaired I decided to re-cover the instrument panel with new vinyl & refit the gauges as it was looking a bit sad and I wanted to try to turn the engine over. Here's the result. I am quite pleased. It wasn't too bad before but someone had drilled it for an alarm system LED and the position of the light was so random it drove me crazy and had to go along with the headlamp washer switch. Stuck the battery back in and it actually turned over, it even had oil pressure after only a few seconds. It last ran about 5 years ago before i pulled the fuel tank. Since then I have removed the alarm system and a few small looms like the headlamp washers and fog lamps, I love how the optional extras all have separate little wiring looms with part number labels on them. The next job was to tackle the front bumper shock mount that I cut out last year (or the year before I'm losing track). I hadn't finished cleaning it up as my other car was immobile and too close to do any grinding. Here's a picture of my working space, I'm hoping to rebuild the garage soon. I had finished sorting the bugs injection out and it had been moved to a friends workshop a few weeks before I went into the garage for something and realised I could grind again. I had managed to get a rust free front clip from California for 60 quid so I trimmed it to fit and tacked it in. Fully welded My next job is to clean it up with the grinder. I still have the passenger side corner of the windscreen to repair and a tiny hole in one sill. I was originally going to replace the front wings but after blasting they don't look too bad so I will repair them. I still haven't decided if I am going to remove the sunroof or not, personally I don't like them but its more work. Thats pretty much up to date, I'm going to have to get back into the garage before there will be any more updates. Tim
  5. Last summer I managed to get hold of a scuttle corner. Unfortunately it was off a targa so was a bit different, the piece which goes up the side of the screen is reinforced so I cut it to fit the car and welded it in. Here's the bit i bought. Trial fit. Here it is tacked in. This is the only part of the Dansk repair panel I used and it still didn't fit. Ground back and primed. Thats all for now Tim
  6. I can't believe its been three years since I started this post, the car is slowly getting there. although at this point its been off the road for 8 years. I restored the fuel tank about 2 years ago, as usual it looked fine from on top but under the car the coating had mostly fallen off and it was covered in rust. The original coating was a huge pain in the arrrr5e to remove and took a combination of wire wheels and 3M pads in an angle grinder then blasting with glass bead in one of the shot blasting cabinets we have in work which it only just fitted in. Here's a picture of it cleaned and phosphor etch coated. And here it is finished. I know its not the factory finish but its done properly with good products so should last a long time. Tim
  7. The caliper will stop the hub coming off the car, assuming that the hub to disc bolts don't also simultaniously all fail Tim
  8. Maybe I've just got a bad one, I've already cut it into 3 pieces to try to make it fit, every possible dimension & curve is wrong. Its awesome
  9. Yeah, I've got some "repair" panels, frankly I don't think I could throw them far enough away as due to the shape they would probably come back
  10. Tried there, they didn't have one. I think I saw the pictures of the bits you got some where on IB, was it kinda off red/pinky? looked nice & rust free. Tim
  11. Cheers World, Thats what I was thinking, I looked in PET & couldn't see a difference but there is a different dashboard top (the metal not the padded one) for Targas so it must be different on the inside of the screen where I don't care as it will be cut off. It think I'll take a flyer & get one side to try if its not too expensive. Tim
  12. Hi Guys I'm not having much luck obtaining either some used screen corners or a whole scuttle panel. Douglas Valley have got both corners off two different cars but say they won't fit as they're of Targas which have more metal inside to strengthen the screen surround, mines a coupe. As I only want the outer sheet metal can I use the Targa corners & cut any extra bits out or are they just talking rubbish & they are exactly the same. Cheers Tim
  13. Oops, at least it will keep the rust in the bumper shock mount at bay for a while Tim
  14. Amazing work tea boy, I've been following your project for a while & its really inspiring me to get out into the garage & work on my own. Have you swapped the scuttle panel over to the 993 one yet? If the old one comes of in reasonable shape I would be interested in it. Keep up the good work Tim
  15. Tacked in & welds ground down, I need to get a flapwheel so I can blend the welds in properly so I left it like this & sprayed some rattle can black to keep the rust at bay. Thats it for now Tim
