Blimey, Just read this thread from the begining. There was me looking at a 'cheap' 930. Thought well if I can get a years reasonable free of hassle motoring any other probs can be done over the next few years. .......... Hmmm, think I'll pass. I just haven't got the dosh or patience to go through all of the above. Best of luck.

I also gave them the benefit of the doubt. That was a mistake. To be honest, I have also heard good things about the mechanic at Portiacraft, it's just a shame that its the company and not the quality of the mechanic you hear negative comments about. If the sales side of the business left the service side alone, things would I guess be far better for their reputation me thinks. On the oil front, I'm suprised they put 15/40 in your 3.2. When they sold me my 3.2 with low oil pressure at Max 2.2 bar at 5000 RPM and tickover at less than 1 bar; they blamed it on the fact the oil they used was for modern engines and was to thin....... Reason for this was because they didn't use anything else. They left a very sour taste in my mouth, they had had six weeks to prep the car before collection and though they came right in the end, being treated like an idiot was to say in the least upsetting. Plus 2x 200 miles round trips and two days off work for which I had to cover. I really hope it works out ok, I'm sure it will, but please do keep an eye on it when its completed. .... Hartech I have heard nothing but praise and for older engines (especially pre 96) normally use Magnetec semi, so confused why they would not on your occasion. All the best

I'd have put that down to a newbie topping the oil up when the dipstick was checked with the engine switched off rather than a need for an engine rebuild.

Absolutly. A friend did the ring 5-6 times a year with his bought from new 1985 3.2, raced it everywhere road or track and sold it with 214000 miles on the clock. No problems. He simply had it serviced when it was supposed to be serviced and by someone who knew what he was at. The one thing he always did was warm her up carefullly from cold. Reason he sold it was to fund the purchase of a new 996 back in 2000. .......... Something he regrets to this day.

+1 ...... ahem, lets me put it another way +1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000

To be honest I never did really find out why it happened. Ok it was wet, but I was really only travelling at about 50MPH. I even carried on driving it to work after. Diesel maybe, hidden by the rain? I could say the driver was at fault, but I would readily admit it if I thought I was doing something stupid. In hindsight maybe I could have saved it if it had happened before to a lesser extent. The problem was, pushbike in road and a narrow carriageway with no run off and a driver not for one second expecting it. I'll never forget the amazement I felt when I realised that I had lost control and that was it. Backwards into the embankment I went. It cost 9.5K to fix, I was gobsmacked.

Actually to be fair, he was passing. ... well thats what he told me anyway

Well done that man. A friend took his 6 years old 20k miles 996 carrera in to Porsche Solihull for a replacement headlight bulb, and whilst he was there it had the once over from them .................. it's gotta go back for 'further' work.
-
Yeah, I remember thinking just that until mine let go, did a 90 then a 180, then another 90 and then there I was thinking how everything runs in slow motion when you are out of control heading backwards. Remember, they handle fantastically and have a very high grip threshold UNTIL they let go. Then unlike most cars they are virtually impossible to get back. Modern cars aren't so bad, but on any pre 993 911 just don't lift off mid bend. ........ I did, in the wet at 50MPH because of a cyclist in the middle of the road. Before I knew it I was well and truly embedded in an embankment. Even so, still can't beat them. ....... Best of luck with your new purchase buddy, hope you have years of trouble free motoring.

Can I ask why? It's just that in these lack of sunroof buts it got aircon days, thats the one thing I would really like. The thought of slide it open and a bit of fresh air seems great. Or am I wrong?

Mines gone. had her only a week. Dealer did the right thing and gave me my money back. I can't say more than that.

If I wanted to get a tail re-fitted how much would it cost? I'm just thinking for possible bargaining purposes later (Though I doubt it will come to that)
-
Hi, after an abortive attemp at buying an SSE (it went back) I now am again looking for a late 3.2. I've found one I think may be of interest, however the guy selling hasn't got the rear spoiler fitted. Though as new the car came with one. My question is will that effect future resale? I'm not bothered about it not being fitted because (like him) I prefere it without. However my worry is that if/when I come to sell at a later date, it might loose alot of money because it aint fitted. Alas the guy no longer has the tail to sell with the car. (He left it will the dealer when he bought the car) Should I not worry, or is this a future problem. Any thoughts?

I thought that the standard 2.7 came only with the narrow body. That looks like a Carrera or SC bodyshell to me. Or am I wrong? One thing I do know, its been for sale for a long time.
