    The Red Devil

Hi Andrew, been following your refreshing of “the red devil” with interest for some time now. As the previous owner of 36 years I am thrilled to see you are restoring “ my” car with such dedication and skill. You possess skills that I don’t have or you are doing jobs on the car I was less inclined to do in my older age. Keep up the good work and I’m sure very many on the forum are benefiting from your detailed explanations. I still have in mind to call on you in my replacement - Ferrari and to inspect the Red Devil. Terry
  2. Hi yep had that about 10 years ago on my 1980 SC. A new main stalk solved the problem. Column shrouds off and straightforward replacement. Terry
  3. Pardon my ignorance but what is a hotrod and why specifically ask for a targa when the Coupe is structurally stronger.? Or does the addition of a cage negate the possible flexing of the hull. Terry
  4. Mot history is interesting. Current Mot expired in January. 2021
  5. £62k for a LHD import possibly. wow.
  6. I guess you and him are not my buyer then 😂 Having just got through 6 weeks of non COVID illness a heater hose is not central to my life at the moment. It’s so easy to be a negative with a keyboard. I think my car will present well once I get the prep done. What I dislike most when viewing a car is the cover ups carried out by unscrupulous sellers. This car is honest and a prospective buyer has every opportunity to find out everything about the car from an owner of 35 years.
  7. .......the current hose still functions perfectly. So how many other “new” parts should I fit? Seriously , I know what you mean it’s just getting to a Porsche dealer is a pain currently. Terry
  8. Hi thank you for your comment. Think I have concluded that £45k for my SC Coupe is the right value. Am currently doing a tidy up and preparing the advert to post on here shortly. Terry
  9. Don’t know if this has been mentioned Dont reset the trip with the car moving as it breaks the fragile cog wheel. hth
  10. Thanks all for those who have offered guidance. I have now subscribed to Impact Bumpers in recognition of your support. Details of my possible sale pending. Terry
  11. Thank you all for your considered opinions. I agree the classic market is a bit volatile at moment. I don’t see my car with it’s 35year continuity of history going much less for £45k including the spares package As for the “faults” mentioned well any car 42 years old will have age related flaws The steering wheel needed a clean with magic sponge and is ok now The bins I removed and tried to realign but and pressure on the upper centres would distort the body so best left as is Heater air hose, whose quibbling about a £15 part in the big scheme of things!! The car has many minor flaws that will be evident to a viewing purchaser as nothing is hidden As said before post restoration the body/ hull is solid May post it on here later in month as I see it going to an impact bumpers enthusiast Terry
  12. Apologies- senior moment. Collecting Cars. Online auction
  13. Yes, have considered advert on here but footfall seems slow. By contrast, 911UK, impact bumpers seem non existent!! Usual commercial suspects seem to attract occasional scammers . Ebay- no thanks Don’t want to SOR as I am selling with a valuable “ spares” package Counting cars said I could expect to get about £32,000 and they need £150 photography fee Hmmm
  14. Thanks for your opinion Phil. Seems about the ballpark when compared to other “private” adverts currently but market looks slow? wondering where best to advertise now. Terry
  15. Hello all, well 18 months have passed us by since I first posted. I still own this lovely example and have enjoyed a further 1000 miles motoring. Am now back to thinking of selling as I am fast approaching 3 score years and 10 so where is the market / pricing on 911SC Coupe now? As agreed previously, it is not concourse but it is a very solid car and much admired Now been owned and maintained by me for almost 36 years Now has “historic” status with dvla Any advise or opinions warmly received. Terry
  16. Russ i don’t know how to post photos. Maybe that’s not allowed now
  17. So, everything back together and looks smart. Akternator was checked and confirmed as working well. HOWEVER, I still have no charge going to the battery. I have bridged the wires to the external SEV Marchal Regulator and the alternator is then sending 14.9 v to the battery at idle. Therefore I assume the external regulator is duff. Anyone know where I can get an original SEV unit other than from America? Anyone got a surplus unit gathering dust maybe? Trying to keep my car as original as possible. Terry
  18. Hi all thanks for your contributions. I investigated companies in North Essex. Results are not great, Was recommended to try Surtec650 or Iridite NCP conversion coatings. They have superceded Chromate which is a very hazardous process. However, those two processes do not take to magnesium. There is a company in Essex that do Chromate coating but are unwilling to guarantee their work on Porsche fan housings!!! Bit the bullet and went to Greatworth Classics near Banbury. They agreed to turn around my job inside 3 hours. Their workshops are amazing, with many restorations of Porsche’s and campervans in progress. Virtually every part of the process can be done in-house from body restoration, engine and gearbox rebuilding, upholstery work and paint work. Was so pleased to be shown around by their enthusiastic staff. Oh, and the fan housing and fan. degreased and Chromate finished for me and what a lovely job to get sorted. They are happy to receive your parts for refreshing by post and are happy to discuss your requirements. Thanks for the recommendation PeterK. In
  19. Thanks to all the contributors so far. Phil- A1 Anodising and Pierce Polishing are a good way from my location so will not take those any further. Jonny Hart- thanks for the advice re the rivets, leads me to consider whether I take the fan apart now or consider a process for the item as a whole. I have found some companies within striking distance of North Essex so will check those out and report back. Happy to have further ideas. Terry
  20. Thanks for the lead Diesel76. Have checked their website and it appears they only do powercoating. I am after as near oem finish so their service will not be for me. Thanks Terry
  21. I have contacted Greatworth and can confirm they Chromate the fan housings. Terry
  22. Hello Ian thanks for your input so far Are your suggested company’s actually doing the refinishing or specialist Porsche people? i am wishing to deal direct with the refinisher and share my results on the forum. Terry
  23. Advise please As my OEM Alternator is out for a rebuild I want to refresh the magnesium housing and fan. I have sent both to be Vapour Blasted at a place locally. My question is, what to do to reseal the magnesium? Any experience to share please? I have been recommended to consider Surtec 650 or Chromate finish Your thoughts are appreciated Terry 911 SC 1980
  24. Have used AD08R extensively on my Lotus Elise. Amazing tyre, great on road, wet or dry and amazing on track at racing speeds, sprinting. Sadly, no longer available and has been superseded by AD 08 RS. These are not a patch on the former. Sorry not a review to report on a 911 as I bought S02’s as recommended on here!!
