Air cooled 911 - specialist mechanic/garage recommendation

Hi

Just wanted to say many thanks to the group for the advice kindly given and for answering my questions..

One of the things I struggled with my recently imported CA,USA 77 911s was finding a quality, experienced and reliable mechanic/garage who understood these cars (I simply currently don't have the skills nor the facilities to work on my car).

I can honestly say that I was so happy to receive a recommendation from a fellow forum user (see thread in June) to contact  Matthew Skeete who runs Classic Carrera Cars in Ottershaw near Woking. He has now worked on my car extensively. I trust him. He is extremely knowledgeable on air cooled 911's and he understands my (limited) budget and  timelines.

He has worked on most of the underbody areas - the brakes, gearbox, suspension, clutch, electrics,  engine out-major service and engine health test, new gaskets  and so on - so "basic" ? things to get her to a place where I now trust her, she is safe and now I can regularly drive her.

I now have a good roadmap in terms of where I want to get the car to.

Thank you Matt. I'm very happy with the quality of your work and your pragmatic honest approach.

I'd like to add that I have not been asked to provide this recommendation. It is sincere and well deserved :)

Thank you...When I got the car from the US I originally got some work done (brakes, electrics, US --> UK spec realignment) by a local very experience mechanic that was recommended. He knew his stuff (for mother cars) but wasn't experience on air cooled 911s of this era. He struggled to identify/source parts and some of the work he did had to be redone. Not really his fault but Matt really knows his stuff ..have a nice weekend. Richard

Must admit that I'd never neard of Classic Carrera Cars even though they're less than a mile down the road from me until this morning. Strangely a delivery driver saw my car on the drive and recommended them, then came in and saw this thread. Will pop in next week and see if they can do a geo setup.

Please say hi to Matt. He mentioned eventually doing a geo setup for me some time back including some lowering of suspension. That's phase 2b for me. Taking the car out for a run today before the sun goes in - can't wait :)
