Well Ciaran, the poster says

Die kende ik nog niet, bedankt :thumleft:

Mooi,mooi,mooi.

heb ik er ook nog een: www.carrera3.co.uk

and that's translated as:

Nice nice nice

Got also one [website BCR] www.carrera3.co.uk

Anyway, there is indeed this poster called mayonaise mentioning (gatlelijk= arrrr5e ugly ) why anyone would make those cut outs in the front spoiler. He argues that a 3.0 RS spoiler is much more desirable.

Another poster is making a point that he would put black centred wheels on it. His general consensus is that it is a fantastic project but it wouldn't matter whether it is an SC or even a 2.7.

Yeah right.

Still, 5 x carrera 3.o's listed on the forum !

list

One of them is going to contact John asking whether he is going to start a carrera 3.o registry....

OOOOOEEEEER GO ON THEN

Hi

I just registered this forum, ans saw this thread. Well, I am the person that's being quoted for saying it doenst matter whether it is an SC or even a 2.7......"yeah right"

I just want to say to bertroex that if you translate, please give the complete story, not just one phrase ! What I was saying there is that I love Johns idea of building a lightweight IB 911. Of course the carrera 3.0 is different then an sc or a 2.7 (why else would I've bought a carrera 3.0 myself if I could have bought an sc for less money ?) but what I ment was : the idea of going lightweight could also work very well on a 2.7 or an sc, and for that idea, it does not matter to me whether its an sc or a 2.7........RIGHT !!

Thnx

Hi Kristof, always good to see another Carrera 3 owner on the forum.

Any chance of you posting some pictures of your car?

LOL, go Kristof! Welcome mate, a minor misunderstanding on Bert's part there - he is not a native Dutch speaker (that I know).

I didn't build the car but I have loved it since I saw it and buy into the lightweight theme big time. So had to have it when it came up for sale. I am making it another bit lighter and a bit faster and that is what it's all about for me.

Post some pics of your car brother ;)

well, about my carrera 3.0 :

I bought the car in march this year from the first owner, here in Belgium. His father bought the car new and when he died in 1982, the car stayed in the family and has been since then used by his son. The car is completely original in silver color, black interior and 15" fuchs wheels, even has the original radio and had original black rubber rear spoiler. At least partly repainted as far as I noticed, if not entirely, but did not get much information about that by previous owner, +/- 80 years old now.

It has 75.000km since new on the counter, not prooven by servicerecords, but since its one owner and in great unrestored condition, it could be very well correct mile-age.

Problem though is that we found out with first service/maintenance in april (oil / spark plugs / valve adjustement / etc) that 4 of the (dilivar) studs are broken :-( so engine is going to be repared next month. A problem that might have been noticed if I had done a PPI.......lesson learned for next time :-).

The small pics are made by the previous owner used to advertise the car, the other one is of the car at my home (yes I deleted the rear spoiler). I will take better pics once the car is ready, but it is at the shop now for the engine, so I cant post any better pics yet.

The last pic is of a carrera 2.7 I saw here in another thread : I love the look with the carrera striping and the chrome windowtrim. I am seriously considering modifying my car to look this way. I think the chrome looks great on silver 911's and give a real vintage look. Opinions are welcome..... :whistling:

Hi Kristof, that's a lovely looking car you've got there - presume it's an original Sport model with the front and rear spoilers and Fuchs wheels. I love the radio - perfect for the car (though maybe not for its audio!).

I can sympathise with your head stud problem - my engine had to be rebuilt for the same reason earlier this year (mucho dinero but it was worth it).

I've got side-stripes on my car - I think they suit the C3 really well. Personally, I prefer the original black-look that came on many Sport models but that's just me - I think you could specify either look when these cars were new.

BTW, I'm always on the lookout for Carrera 3 photos for my website - would it be okay to include some of yours in my gallery?

Anyway I bet you can't wait to get it back from the workshop and to take it for a seriously good blast :)

Don't forget 'Sport' is a designation given to UK IBs, it is not a factory package. The UK put a collection of options on the cars and branded them Sport - same as on SCs and 3.2s - but it is not something you see in every country.

Hello Jack

Love your website ! Feel free to use the pics if they're ok for you. I hope to be able to get you better pics in the near future.

The car has all the sport package features yes, but has koni suspension !? Was the Billstein a separate option or was this market dependant ? Could be as John says, I dont know.

A friend of mine also has a carrera 3.0 : Its a 1976 coupe that just had a complete windows out repaint (white) and an engine rebuild. I'll send him the url of your website, so he can contact you if he wants to share some pics.

Regards

K.

The Konis are right for our cars, they are the stated option pre-SC. Mine is still running Konis. After '78, the upgrade just comes as 'Sports' dampers.

John, I never knew that - I always thought the Sport was a generic factory version.

On the subject of shock absorbers my understanding was that in the Uk the non-Sport cars ran on Konis and the Sport models (the later C3s anyway) on Bilsteins (identified by their green colour). But getting a 100% definitive answer to this sort of thing (in the Uk, never mind across Europe) always seems difficult as the true facts seem to get lost in the mists of time.

Plus there's so much variety between individually specified cars - comfort/sport packs, etc, etc. How about this from Chris Harvey's 'Porsche 911 in all its Forms' from 1988: - 'the J series range for Europe included 2 C3s - the C3 with... Koni dampers... and the C3 Sport which had Bisltein shock absorbers....', but he then adds that you could also order the American 911s Comfort pack, with 'softer Bilsteins', for the C3 in Europe as well

In the UK I understood that the Sport models had Bilsteins but as John says this might not have been the case in Europe...

Great stuff - if he wants to share his photos send me a Personal Message and I'll let you have my e-mail address (its not included on the site to avoid those pesky spammers).

I've got a '76 Carrera 3.0 as well. Car is fully restored (incl. 915 and engine) by the previous Canadian owner. More pics are in my album! For those who are interested I can send you a B&W copy of the '76 UK brochure!

Is that Amsterdam in the picture?

Yep, albeit one of the uglier parts of the canals
