There is also one mucho importante thing.

Once you have the o ring nicely snug tight against the case put on the washers and the nuts.Make it hand tight .The important thing is the washer MUST not turn-not even 1mm. So ,make sure you hold it and in the same time tighten the nut.

If it will spin you will have an oil leak. What happens is the o rings get pinched and that is also the reason for the green type .they are much better quality.

What i use to do is on the other side of the washer i made a little punch mark (away from the ring place)so when the washer meet the case it will stop it from spinning.

believe me i have seen engines being taken a part right after rebuild because of the washers were spinning during assembly.

Anyway that is all for today i`ll go have a beer.......

So while I wait for the washers and o rings to turn up, some suspension parts turned up.

I went for 500lb springs and will get some 21mm front torsion bars to match. My sway-away spring plates with new bush housings, new Boge rear shocks and standard rear torsion bars will be for sale if anyone is interested.

The rear suspension got me excited and I ended up ordering the front coilover conversion kit. So the front new Boge inserts and standard torsion bars will be for sale soon too.

I've gone with 350lb rear with 40lb helper springs, and 300lb front with 40lb helper springs.

Fitted the upgraded rear suspension today with the cambermax which I've been meaning to fit for a while. Need to fit some helper springs which should come next week.

Hi Jason,

Love the re-build, but can you confirm what process and products you've been using to re-furb the various satin black fittings on the car please?

Productive day on the car yesterday. I fitted the washers with o-rings from Ivan (thanks again) and no leaks! Hope it stays that way. Also fixed the leak on the stat, no now I'm leak free!

Also fitted the helper springs on the rear coilovers. The front coilover kit will come next week, I think I'll take the front strut off and as I need to cut the brake pipe and pad wear sensor off the shaft I might as well get them powder coated in Bilstein yellow.

Finally I fitted the new door cables and RS door cards.

On Sunday I replaced all the front brake pipes with braided hoses which look much neater. I'll get some pics when I sort the boot out. Still working on the wiring, I managed to get the electric windows and headlights working off the switch!

That's looking tremendous! :)

Any chance the wheels could be getting a splash of satin black instead of the bling-tastic gold?

Even though it is a road car I note it has sprouted belts and a harness bar. How about a modest rear cage ST stylee?

Thanks. No way, I love the gold!

I know, I know. Can't help myself. No half cage, I'm concentrating on getting it MOT'd next.

Still got the MX5? Treated myself to this last week...

Not going crazy with this one.

Yup, rag top hasn't rusted to bits yet. Caterham should be back on the road soon too!

New toy looks nice (now the style bar and "Eunos" light covers are in the skip). Is it a minter to keep polished up, or the basis for another track weapon?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...

You do know a Lexus V8 drops right in, don't you???

It will be a sensible trackday car

Had a great time at Le Mans Classic this weekend, the mx5 did me proud and didn't skip a beat.

Now the 911 is back in Coventry I can crack on it in the evenings. This evening I managed to get the hazard light switch working all the lights. Don't think the indicator stalk is fully wired in so that will be one of the next jobs.

I also fitted the original motor to a new wiper mechanism, it worked first time!

I bought some new arm while I was at Techno Classica earlier this year, but couldn't find the new plastic bits that go underneath them. The old ones are too tatty to fit so I'll have to order some more. :(

After a few wiring issues I've made good progress over the past few days.

As I fitted a Stack tacho, I needed to add some tell tales for the MOT, so I made a panel for these and front heated screen switch.

Photo%2022-07-2016%206%2013%2002%20pm_zp

Photo%2022-07-2016%206%2018%2021%20pm_zp

I thought it would be a simple wire them up to the original tell tale connectors :rlol:

The first issue was the main beam wire had some feedback when on dip beam, about 3.5v which is enough to light up the new LED tell tale but not a normal bulb. I thought about knocking the voltage down to about 8v with a resistor, but while explaining the issue to the electrician at work I had the idea of moving the blue and while tell tale wire to pre-relay which had no feedback. Simple fix.

Photo%2028-07-2016%205%2030%2015%20pm_zp

The second issue was joining the left and right indicator tell tale wires to flash one light, it backfeeds to the other side and flashes all indicator lights when I indicated right or left. This was fixed with a couple of diodes to block the backfeed.

The last issue I've found over the past few days was the high beam. Flashing was fine, but going to high beam (pushing stalk forward) would cut the LED units off. I needed to fit a diode from the high beam relay signal to the dip beam relay signal to fire both dip and high.

Photo%2028-07-2016%205%2029%2059%20pm_zp

Apart from that and a few other wires not plugged in, all the wiring is now sorted for an MOT. Another issue I found tonight was I bought LHD wiper arms :(

Photo%2028-07-2016%205%2054%2047%20pm_zp

So I fitted the old ones for now and will buy some RHD ones. LHD set going cheap!

Photo%2028-07-2016%206%2006%2024%20pm_zp

I've booked the car in to Centre of Gravity on the 17th Sept. This should give me plenty of time to get the car MOT'd and debug the suspension before I spend money on getting it setup properly.
