  1. Great work - patience is your friend!
  2. Try and lift the accelerator pedal with your foot when the revs are surging to see if they fall - if they do then I would check Chris's suggestion.
  3. But you could make up the loss if you can post a video of it! Sorry - bad taste comment
  4. Our nationwide flex account cover is now with the AA. Europe included -MOT needed but can't see any age stipulation.
  5. If it helps I use these with solvent type paints https://www.toolstation.com/pinnacle-premier-concave-mini-roller-foam-sleeves/p57212
  6. Thank you everyone - your responses have helped a lot in getting my thoughts together. Also thanks to my Jeep hire car which is so monumentally bad that it helped to see what to avoid. So far I have failed to find can Alpina at a decent price - a new one came out at £80k on their configurator and I simply do not want to spend that much. A 340d touring is more affordable but there are very few available locally so will keep my eyes open. The C class estate has a lot going for it - particularly making me question when I would use the performance of the above two. The Jeep has an intrusive lane assist which can't be turned off,, tells you to put both hands on the steering wheel when that's where they are, goes almost ape sh*t when you exceed the speed limit it thinks is in place which is often wrong has a range of less than 400km when full of fuel and fully charged and is the single worst car I have ever come across! So ,- now fixed on a diesel estate, probably non hybrid and probably a couple of years old so that it avoids the 'safety'' systems which at best are distracting and usually just dangerous! Actually nay just keep the Merc!!
  7. A D3S touring in Green, no decals, Cognac leather, would best the job! But pricey even second hand (or pre loved as it seems to be now)
  8. Would have considered a 7.5 GTi but not an 8. Still blame them for all those electric cars everywhere! Good call - M340d Touring could be best all around car ever made Love an estate - out of interest what engine do you have? 300dh is great in theory but supposedly has major reliability issues. Also - all mercedes dealers are crap! Thanks for the responses!
  9. Looking for some help with choosing a new (or newer) car. Currently have a CLS diesel shooting brake which has a couple of issues - firstly it's 12 years old, secondly it's gone over 100k miles which SWMBO thinks is too much and finally it's 5m long and doesn't fit well in Spanish villages or roads. I hate the new bings and bongs I get with hire cars - lane keep assist seems to be the most dangerous thing I have ever come across and the mandatory speed limit warnings are designed for idiots so I don't want any of those. I don't mind the passive blind spot warnings. I do a lot of local running around with trips to Spain (1200 miles each way) up to three times a year - only two up and the days of big loads are hopefully past. I won't go electric in this lifetime, actually prefer diesel in a daily, not keen on SUV's (although I did like the Macan I tried). I do like a quality feel ( looked at a new A3 and couldn't consider it with the cheap plastics in the interior). I'm budgeting around the £50k mark but can go either way from there and happy to go a couple of years old to avoid the mandatory 'safety' features. Looking for a keeper - possibly 10 years or so Any ideas? Should add I'm using my own money so no worries on emissions BIK etc
  10. You been to Copenhagen for your holidays TB?
  11. Big ends should be 54.97ain and 54.990 Mains 59.971 and 59.990 Standard sizes Edit - sorry - hadn't seen the answer above!!
  12. There's this one https://ebay.us/m/XD1cek Although it's creeping towards the guaranteed now one price!
  13. Ok - left field approach here. If the 'engineering companies' used a magnaflux or similar crack testing system then that would show surface cracks as well as structural cracks. Given the hassles you're going through is it worth asking Russell to get the crank x-rayed to make sure it's not usable? Don't know who could do that though!
