Finally bought a set of 15" fuchs (7's and 8's). Refurbed by Biaggio, there is a part of me that wants to hang them on the walls rather than put them on the car. Since my wife doesn't share that view, on the car they will go!

I have searched this section of the site, but am still unsure as to what the right size is for my '87 backdate. 195 and 225 seems to be order of the day for width, but profile is less clear.

Does anyone know?

Many thanks.

Well done on the new wheels.

Not only is the question "what profile" but you then have to find a set that is available in those sizes!

I like a 205/55 and 225/50 combo but can't remember what tyres came in those sizes. I have some worksheets somewhere, let me see if I can find them.

195/65 and 215/60 was standard rubber on 7 & 8 " width 15" diameter Fuchs on later IBs.

My 15" wheels are shod with 205/60 and 215/60 and look/feel fine to me.

I've recently put 205/55 and 225/50 Toyo T1-Rs on my 15x7&8. Cost £260 inc delivered from Camskill

Of course we'll need to see pictures Pedders, its been a long time since an update!!!

mine are 205/55's and 225/50 - I like the look - makes the speedo under-read by about 10% which isn't a problem - if you've got a limited mileage classic policy though you'll reach your limit quicker

Thanks for the reminder, I meant to take my GPS out to check speeds

Anyone tried 205/60-15 & 225/55-15 combo?

The dia is the same in both ends but 225/55 is bit smaller in dia than 215/60-15. in my opinion 205/55-15 & 225/50-15 is too low.

I agree, think it is the best of all of them and I looked at a lot of pics before deciding!

Pilot Sport Cups would be my favourite rubber for this job on an IB, like on Carlo's brown C3.

Thanks for all the responses, folks.

There's clearly a bit of choice, but Sladey's car remains the inspiration so subject to revisiting a few photos, think I will go for 205/55's and 225/50's. I did want to fit Toyo R888's (principally because they look cool - shallow, I know) but they don't seem to do a 205/55 size, which is a shame, so looks like I need to get surfing to find a replacement.

I must admit that I hadn't realised profile front and rear was meant to be different!! Will go and have a look at what is currently on the car, out of curiosity...

Will post before and after pictures as soon as its done!

Finally got around to fitting the 15's. Having followed Andy's superb engine rebuild thread, it feels a bit lame to be posting pictures of a change of wheels and a few new badges, but here's a few pics anyway!

As collected from Biaggio:

Contrasting the 7's and 8's:

The offset on the front was initially cause for concern, but now the suspension has settled again it shoud be fine - a slight rolling of the wheel arch would look good though...

Have fitted the P O R S C H E lettering to the engine lid, and rear reflectors to the bumper, which I think adds a nice bit of detail to the rear - it was looking a bit unfinished before:

Gratuitous post wash pics!:

Went for the Toyo T1 - R's in the end (couldn't find a semi-slick tyre in the right size), on account of price and availability.

Looks absolutely superb - dont do anything else to it.

The 15s transform the look of the car IMHO - somehow never looked quite right on the 16" 6s/7s.

I went with 15s as well to save some weight.

I don't think mine are as light as yours though, mine don't float up to the ceiling :D

Car looks fantastic in retro silver, silver fuchs & tyres and back dated panels  i was surprised when i saw it was an '87 in your profile

Love that look on a 911 :signs118:

Thanks for the comments all - much appreciated - still plenty to do on it, though, but then I suppose that's what keeps the interest!

Pedders, your car is looking brilliant mate, look forward to seeing it at the next midland meet, whenever that may be..

Apart from the visual element is there a noticable improvement in acceleration dropping from a 16' to 15' wheel? Any other benefits?

waiting for an expert response with interest :morning: I have assumed they would be better than 16's in a torquey kind of way?? on tighter track configs like Brands Indy ?

Been long hankering after a set of 15" wheels for track use only, shod with some R tyres as dont want to waste them in daily use (in all weathers). Anyone thinking Cookies dont look that great should see this pic:-
