Cracking photos there Chris!

You've clearly got a natural talent for this photography stuff.

I'll throw a few up when I upload from my camera.

Had a great day, although sadly didn't actually meet anyone... I think I was a bit blown away by the turn out, it was Air Cooled heaven.

@Sidewaysfun

Car looked great, a proper hunkered down stance - we were 4-5 cars behind you in the q to park up

What a great event. I love Bicester Heritage it’s a brilliant place for car events. This was like a distilled Sunday Scramble just for air cooled Porsches.  The quality of the vehicles was excellent, the curation of where the vehicles were made it special too. Turn a corner and there was a lone 993 GT2 or a pair of 964RS, or a genuine 911R.  As the crowd thinned you could really enjoy it all.

It was even better to see some faces I’ve not seen for a long while and shooting the breeze. It’s great everyone still has their cars, even if they are in varying stages of ‘development’.  All the IB cars present looked ace though 👍

I’ve got a few pics too, not a patch on Chris’s stunners, but I’ll upload them later on.

These photos look all the better (as in gritty and uniquely British) for the rain. Nice.

Luftwasser we shout call it lol.

Stopped off at a favourite photo spot on the way home and snapped my car.

Great event although it was tricky not being able to touch base with the IB establishment. Tee shirts or pink carnations next meet.

On the cars, I couldn't take my eye off this sexy 964.7e3e93580223287737c452f7d86d2fde.jpg

I have to agree it does look cool. I do have a semi-innocent question though (with sensible hat on :whistling:) - with wheels that size wouldn't the ride quality be absolutely horrible??

I quite enjoyed the event. How the cars were spread around the site was cool in terms of the contrast between the curvy machinery and the old brick buildings.

However, I arrived at 11:30 and found the event to be sort of "disconnected" without any central stage or show other than the cars spread around. Maybe I missed something that happened earlier to my arrival? It would have been cool to have a stage with panel discussions with experts and owners moderated by some knowledgeable person in the field. For example: panel 1 with specialists (Tuthill, Paul Stephens, Autofarm, etc.), panel 2 with 356 owners, panel 3 with aircooled racers, etc.

We arrived about 09:45 and stayed for 2 hours. Set off in the 911 but the windscreen demister was acting as an excellent mister so returned home and got into a modern car with good visibility.

I was a little disappointed that there weren't more "special" cars on display. I would guess there were 15-20 "special" cars and the rest were those driven to the event by the attendees? Apologies if I sound churlish! But standard 21st century marketing - the (paying) air cooled attendees also constituted most of the exhibit. Perhaps future events will draw more special cars and a more structured format with sub-themes and presentations?

That said it was great to see so many air-cooled cars in one place - must have set a new UK record? I still have a soft spot for the 914 - first Porsche I ever drove. 😍

I thought it was great and we must remember they were exporting a recipe for the first time and unless you went to one of the previous events you possibly wouldn’t understand the rationale.  The organisation of the cars was particularly precise and almost obsessive.  Seeing it all being coordinated by Jeff Zwart (Google him) riding around on a bike was slightly surreal.  Arriving at 0745 and being welcomed at the main gate by the UK organiser (owner of the Paul Smith car) was nice and after passing the entrance exam (I can explain) driving in slowly to an almost empty site with about ten people and a select bunch of very special cars carefully laid out was just great.  They were taking pictures of all exhibitors cars in the same place and against the same backdrop, for some reason mine was also captured.  The guy taking these pics was English and he said the American organisers were pleased about the rain, it put a British stamp on it all and I guess they’ve never had any at previous ones.  I wouldn’t expect a re-show next year as they go somewhere different each time and now that they know they can cross the pond safely, Europe is their oyster.

Great to catch up with you lot too

Well, then it's clearly my fault for not having been to a previous event and not understanding the rationale.

Most on here haven’t and I am one of them. But if you look at pictures from previous events you may get what I mean.  A lot of work goes into layout, almost an obsessive level when you look at the last one in the woodyard.  The coffee table books which follow the events are beautifully captured examples of auto art and it will be interesting to see how they capture the British version, the wettest Luftgekuhlt on record.....

@Jonny Hart said when he arrived Patrick Long was outside standing in the rain pointing traffic the right way.  Good lad.

I was listening to him be interviewed (Patrick Long, not Jonny) and he said they deliberately spread the cars out and did not put them all together; the idea was to go exploring the site. I really liked that part of it.

I thought it was pretty cool to be honest. When I first got there, I was struggling for direction and remember moaning about it to @flappa2. But I soon found myself settling into the relaxed vibe. Quite nice turning a corner and not knowing what car to expect. Like a discovery trail for Porsche’s! Bet I missed a few.

@Northy that’s me stuffing chips behind @SP72s car! Lol we really should get badges, hats or something lol.

@Ian Comerford good to meet you there. 7.45! Part time security job? Lol

If luft won’t be in the uk next year, could we organise something? Was defo worth the effort attending.

You’ve got skills Haith!

Your wife does have a point - I however gave you the benefit of doubt 😁

<scuttles off to check grille badges are still there>

On your other point, ‘Sunday Scramble’ at the same venue in early October usually has a good mix of cars. Much bigger in turnout as it’s not locked down to any single make. Usually a good IB turnout

Weather might be the same-ish, however.

Great to catch up with some of the IB massive, the rain was wet but didnt seem to dampen spirits much.

Next time we should arrange a meeting point that we can wander past every hour or whatever to catch up with fellow IB'ers instead of just hoping to guess what people look like based on their forum name, I mean Haith looks nothing like a bee!
