Insurance Premiums and Prices

agreed value of 30k?!! how did you blag that one?

flipping cheap insurance too, you sure they are backed up by a decent underwriter?

I don't live in Kent nor commute.

Valuation by JG :-)

They don't have modern Porsches skewing the prices etc.

They specialise in hotrods and American cars and sound like they understand classic car owners.

One of the guys I talked to (Darren) used to run Classicline: we had a right good chat about insurance. V interesting.

I contacted the following insurers as recommended on here and Pistonheads:

http://www.rhclassicinsurance.co.uk

http://www.classiclineinsurance.co.uk/

http://www.heritage-quote.co.uk/

http://www.brentacre.co.uk/

http://www.sureterm.com

http://www.hagertyinsurance.co.uk/

I wanted 5000 miles a year and to include my wife. I also wanted to be able to use the car to occasionally commute to work and visit customers. A lot of insurers don't like this, particular the latter point which left me with ClassicLine and RH Insurance both pretty similar at 343 and 358 respectively. Without the business use (and so therefore useless to me) Sureterm were 333 and Heritage were 476. The others either didn't get back to me or said they couldn't quote.

Some insurers (certainly ClassicLine and Heritage) wanted to know if I'd owned previous similar cars. ClassicLine were happy with the Caterham, Heritage weren't.

Not sure if that helps but it's a list of URLs at least :) (Although the websites were almost uniformly useful and I had to follow up by phone or email)

I've just renewed my car. Henderson Taylor was up to £480 including 5 track days a year. However, I did manage to get them down to £328. But since I didn't do a single track day last year and I now have access to another track car, I figured I'd drop the track cover. Hagerty offered £20K agreed value, 3K miles and euro break down cover for £188 - which is the cheapest I've ever paid for any car insurance.

I think it's probably an extra £100 to add 2K miles more on.

Is that agreed value and trackdays cover? Or one, t'other?

Agreed value and trackday cover together..

HT didn't used to do that, it was one or the other, also they stopped allowing for the occasional commute so I changed

to Manning's this year, £375, xs 250, 3k mileage, trackdays and Agreed Value all mods declared.

My AV is only 17k, maybe I need to up that.

I've just renewed with Brentacre. 250xs, 3k miles and premium is 395. Agreed value to be sorted out after I send done pictures through. I'd originally thought it was worth around 15/16k. Wondering if that may be a bit off the mark...

Just confirmed , agreed value and 5 trackdays cover all in with Henderson Taylor

Cool

Just been on the phone to Matthew armed with an updated valuation from JG

Waiting for that call back - my valuation has gone up significantly so waiting to see the impact on the premium ...

Commuting, ???

Very frustrating this insurance cr*p, HT wouldn't give me AV and trackdays so stuck with just trackday cover for the last couple of years but earlier this year they told me no commuting so that's why I changed to Manning's who do AV, trackdays and commuting.

Can't remember to be honest mate , I don't need commuting as I travel with the great unwashed to work..

It's their new policy using equity redstar , who RH and Lancaster/Sureterm use , although only HT offer the trackday option

Ive wasted hours today doing online quotes only to be told to ring, then refused point blank because the car is under a (fitted) cover, under a carport, behind locked gates.

If it were in a crap asbestos garage it would be fine. Grrr!

I don't commute because I work from home.

RH are still up for it, but £445. What really annoys me is that earlier today I blew my 9+ years NCB insuring my cheap and cheerful Skoda daily driver.

Your AV has to have gone up, unless the condition of your car has gone down, but other than through the PCGB I can't advise how to get one, other than via Peter Morgan here, £30 a pop:

http://www.porscheinspections.com/porsche_valuations.php . I think there are various experts that will value you car, its which ones your insurers will accept that is the question.

Today I have been pestered by the companies that quoted me silly last week, one broker has even emailed me a £660 quote that is £60 MORE than their best quote Friday, how on earth

do they think that will tempt me?

Meantime, I asked Lockton for a requote on 5000 miles, as I'm tempted to go to Le Mans next summer, which would make a big hole in a 3000 mile allowance, it works out 20 odd quid more, so I'll have that. :)

Sureterm decided not to continue insuring classics, so I had to do the dreaded ring around - in the end went with a very nice man at Adrian Flux insured through Enterprise/Midas with agreed value of £42,000, £450 excess, commuting, 5k limited miles for £288
